The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has issued a hurricane watch for several Florida counties, including Brevard County and Indian River County.

“A Hurricane Watch has been issued for portions of the Florida east coast from north of Deerfield Beach northward to the Volusia-Brevard County Line,” the NHC said in a statement.

There is also a tropical storm warning for our area.

“A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for portions of the Florida east coast from north of Ocean Reef northward to Sebastian Inlet and for Lake Okeechobee,” the NHC added.

A hurricane warning is in effect for most of the Bahamas as Hurricane Isaias is taking a turn to the north.

As of 11:00 a.m., Hurricane Isaias is about 295 miles from Nassau, Bahamas. The storm has 75 mph maximum sustained winds and is moving northwest at 16 mph.

A Hurricane Warning means that hurricane conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area. A Hurricane Watch means that hurricane conditions are possible within the watch area. A watch is typically issued 48 hours before the anticipated first occurrence of tropical-storm-force winds.

Sebastian residents should get prepared Friday before the rains and winds begin later in the night. We can expect a lot of rain and winds from Friday night through Sunday.
