The Main Street railroad crossing will be closed from Jan. 3 to Jan. 20 for Brightline construction in Sebastian, Florida. The crossing will also be closed to pedestrians.

The project was set to begin in May 2022, but it was postponed because the crossing is a little more complicated with the track switching and tracks.

Brightline spokesperson Katie Mitzner told Sebastian Daily the upgrades are part of Brightline’s $2.7 billion improvements to provide higher-speed passenger service.

The recent railroad upgrades are part of Brightline’s expansion, spanning from West Palm Beach to the Orlando International Airport. Passenger trains will be traveling at 110 mph through Sebastian.

Officials for the City of Sebastian thank all residents for their patience and for looking for alternative routes when the railroad crossing is closed.

“Brightline is laying down track, upgrading existing crossings and building new bridges to meet the highest standards throughout the counties we serve and plan to serve. During construction, there will be temporary street closures. We’re sorry for any hassles that might cause you,” Brightline said in a statement.

Railroad crossings at CR-510, Schumann Drive, Sebastian Blvd (CR-512), and Roseland Road will remain open.
