Sebastian River High School issued a formal statement to parents on Wednesday evening regarding allegations of an inappropriate relationship between a student and an Indian River County School District employee.

The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office has taken over the investigation, but details are limited at this time.

“I can confirm we have an active investigation but I can’t release any details,” Sheriff Eric Flowers told Sebastian Daily.

The school’s principal immediately placed the employee on administrative leave while the Department of Children and Family Services conducted an investigation. Following their review, the DCF referred the case to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office for further investigation.

Dr. David Moore, the school district superintendent, instructed the human resources department to begin the process of terminating the employee’s employment.

The district said it has a zero-tolerance policy against any form of employee misconduct, particularly when it involves students.

The name of the employee involved in the alleged incident has not been released.
