In a remarkable achievement, Indian River schools is recognized with the Treasure Coast’s only A grade for the 2022-2023 school year, as announced by the Florida Department of Education on Monday. This comes in light of the schools’ impressive test scores and graduation rates, setting them apart in the region.

The Indian River County school district last achieved an ‘A’ grade in the year 2015.

The Florida Department of Education’s grading system, which traditionally includes an assessment of learning gains and student improvement throughout the year, underwent a change this year. The introduction of the new Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) for K-12 students meant there were no prior year’s scores for comparison. Despite this, Indian River schools demonstrated exceptional performance with their school grades.

Superintendent David Moore of Indian River Schools shared his insights with the School Board on Monday. He highlighted the significance of the district’s achievement, especially given the absence of learning gains in this year’s evaluation. Moore said the school district was able to improve 9 percentage points (to get the A) and emphasized that this success lays a strong foundation for the school district’s future.

The A grade stands as a testament to the dedication and hard work of both students and educators in Indian River County. It reflects the district’s commitment to high standards of education and its ability to adapt and excel, even in the face of new challenges and assessment criteria.
