Mary Nell Paquette passed away peacefully on April 18, 2024, in Battle Creek, Ml, surrounded by her family. Born on February 6, 1939, in Vinton, Iowa, to Walter and Annabelle (Weist) Heineman, Mary’s life was devoted to her family and community, woven with the joy she found in socializing and her various interests.
Mary grew up on the family farm near Garrison, lowa. Her early years were shared with her siblings, John (Chum) Heineman, who preceded her in death, and Marsha (Charles) Sterling of Las Vegas, NV.
Mary’s journey led her to Eugene Paquette, whom she married on June 28, 1962, in Coeur d’Alene, ID.
Together, they emb]rked on an adventurous life as part of the US Air Force, living in various states and countries throughout his career.
After her husband retired from the Air Force, they settled near her family in Iowa for a decade before retiring to the sunny climes of Sebastian, Florida. Mary thrived in the warm community, engaging in numerous activities that reflected her outgoing personality. She was an active member of the Red Hat Society and the Welcome Wagon Committee, and she found joy in the camaraderie of several card-playing groups. Retirement also allowed Mary to indulge in her passion for shopping, traveling, enjoying good food, and socializing with family and friends, creating memories that would be treasured by all who knew her.
In 2019, Mary made the decision to move to Michigan to be closer to her daughters, Ann Marie Kruse (Russ) of Battle Creek, Ml, and Mary Beth Eckhart of Holland, Mi. Her presence was a blessing to her family, including her grandchildren, Nathan (Paige) Kruse, Matthew (Sammy) Kruse, Hannah (Bobby) Dawe, Griffin Eckhait, Tina (Cory) Gregory, and Tom Gregory, as well as her three great-granddaughters.
Mary’s legacy of love and kindness also extended to her several nieces, nephews, and their children, who will fondly remember her generous nature and the warmth of her company.
Mary’s story is one of a life well lived. As we celebrate her life, we take comfort in knowing that she has been reunited with her beloved husband, Eugene, who passed away on September 13, 2001. Together, they rest in peace, leaving behind a legacy of love that will forever be cherished.
In keeping with Mary’s wishes, the family will hold a private memorial service at Fort Custer National Cemetery at a later date.
