On Tuesday, March 19th, the first day of spring, the Marine Resources Council (MRC) will unveil a pivotal environmental initiative titled “IMAGINE! A Year of Hope + Action.”

This significant movement, presented by MRC’s LagoonWATCH program, combines the efforts of citizens and scientists alike to spotlight the Indian River Lagoon and its ongoing restoration and conservation efforts. As one of the planet’s most precious natural assets, the lagoon stretches eastward from Orlando, covering 40% of Florida’s Atlantic coastline, and is recognized as North America’s most biodiverse habitat.

To commemorate the initiative’s commencement, MRC leaders and community advocates will assemble for the “IMAGINE! initiative kick-off ceremony at 5 pm. The celebration, slated from 4 pm to 7 pm, will also honor the 20th anniversary of the Ted Moorhead Lagoon House.

This environmental learning center and IRL National Scenic Byway visitor hub serves as MRC’s headquarters and will welcome the public Monday through Saturday, 9 am to 1 pm, starting March 25th. Located at 3275 Dixie Hwy NE, Palm Bay, the Lagoon House will offer insights into low-impact lagoon living.

Throughout the year, the MRC initiative will host several key events and launches:
