Since yesterday, Sebastian Daily has been receiving emails and calls from Barefoot Bay residents concerned with the rising number of COVID-19 cases.

“Please investigate the real number of cases of COVID-19 in Barefoot Bay. There are so many elderly people here, and the news is not telling the truth on the number of current cases here,” a resident told Sebastian Daily.

As of 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2020, there have been 28 cases in Barefoot Bay since the pandemic started last March.

Residents may be looking at the number, thinking they are recent cases. The health department doesn’t release the current number of cases, but only data since the pandemic began. We believe this may be part of the misinformation as they do not report the number of people who have recovered.

Also, we report the number of cases in Micco separately. They currently have 8 cases. Some people may be combining the number of Barefoot Bay and Micco cases.

Overall, the number of new cases in Barefoot Bay remains low. In fact, there haven’t been any new cases for a few days.

Brevard County, where Barefoot Bay is located, is climbing in numbers. However, we haven’t seen a significant increase in Grant, Micco, or Barefoot Bay. Most of the increases are north and central in the county.
