MICCO – Deputies say a woman who crashed her minivan in Micco Wednesday evening had told them she was carjacked, according to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

However, Tod Goodyear, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office, told Sebastian Daily that the carjacking never happened.

Goodyear said the woman crashed her own vehicle then told deputies she was carjacked from a gas station. Deputies used a helicopter and several K-9s to search for the alleged suspect Wednesday evening.

The Florida Highway Patrol is expected to issue citations against the woman. Officials have not yet identified her.

Southbound traffic on U.S. Highway 1 was backed up Wednesday evening through Micco and Grant while the crash was investigated. The crash happened north of Barefoot Bay Boulevard just after 6:00 p.m.

The woman’s vehicle rolled several times before settling on the side of the roadway. She was able to exit the minivan safely as deputies questioned her about the crash.

The woman is now facing possible charges by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.
