The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office announced today the successful conclusion of a multi-month investigation targeting drug trafficking in the area.
The Special Investigations Unit seized over 4 pounds of cocaine and nearly 8 ounces of counterfeit Oxycodone pills, which were determined to contain deadly fentanyl.
The arrest took place in the parking lot of Tractor Supply Company, located on CR-512, where the suspects parked after exiting Interstate 95 (I-95).
Five individuals from outside the county were involved in the operation, with one arrest made so far. Sheriff Eric Flowers expressed his department’s commitment to combating the opioid epidemic and addressing the influx of illicit drugs fueled by open border policies.
“We continue to seek out those who are selling fentanyl and other drugs in our community. With an open border, these drugs are more plentiful than ever before, as you can see in this case. Our team is committed to eradicating these illicit narcotics and seeking justice for overdose victims,” said Sheriff Eric Flowers.
The investigation culminated in the arrest of 52-year-old Alberto Ayala of Ocala. Undercover detectives arranged a controlled purchase of the drugs, leading to Ayala’s apprehension on Monday, July 24th.
He is currently being held on a $500,000 bond and faces multiple felony charges for trafficking controlled substances and unlawful use of a two-way communication device.

Ayala is known for distributing substantial quantities of cocaine, methamphetamine, and fentanyl pills, and authorities anticipate additional arrests in the coming weeks.
