Sebastian Teen Accepted into Prestigious FSU Piano Institute

Parker Yenny of Sebastian, Florida

Sebastian has something else to cheer about in a town where kids are encouraged to be their best. Fourteen-year-old Parker Yenny has been accepted into the Florida State University College of Music Piano Institute this summer.

The institute’s selection process, known for its strict standards, involved a video audition. Despite stiff competition and an overwhelming number of applicants this year, Parker emerged as one of the 24 advanced players chosen for the intensive training program.

The institute offers participants a range of opportunities, including master classes, technique workshops, music theory sessions, and exploration of classical piano literature.

What makes Parker’s achievement all the more remarkable is his relatively short time dedicated to the piano. While his passion for music ignited during his toddler years, it was only about two years ago that he began to play the piano. However, under the guidance of his mentor, Ms. Rochelle Sallee of Sebastian, he has swiftly developed his skills. Parker’s dedication is evident in his daily practice routine, quick grasp of pieces, and ability to memorize music effortlessly.

Beyond his musical talent, Parker is a stellar student at Sebastian River Middle School. He excels in the demanding International Baccalaureate Program while maintaining straight A’s.

Parker is equally impressive in activities outside of school, from playing piano in the school’s Jazz Band to serving as an assistant teacher in the church’s religious school, where he teaches first graders about faith and the Catholic Church.

Despite his busy schedule, Parker finds time to pursue his other interests, including martial arts—he’s a third-degree green belt at Sebastian Karate—and attending local piano concerts. He recently experienced his first opera, Mozart’s Don Giovanni, further broadening his musical horizons.

Parker’s face lights up when asked about his musical preferences as he discusses his love for romantic period pieces, particularly those by his favorite composer, Frederick Chopin.

As Parker prepares for this fantastic journey at the FSU Piano Institute, we cheer him on for his talent, dedication, and passion for music! Way to go, Parker!
