The veteran’s mobile home, which suffered extensive fire damage, is now under threat of foreclosure by Whispering Palms Corporation, which has demanded the clearance of outstanding fees totaling around $3,000. The situation is compounded by removal costs estimated between $7,000 and $8,000.
Despite these challenges, several positive developments have emerged. The Whispering Palms Manager has generously offered to disconnect utilities at no charge. Furthermore, the IRC landfill and the IRC health department have waived dump and permit fees, respectively. A demolition company has also stepped forward, willing to perform the work at cost.
However, time is not on our side. The IRC building department has not waived its permit fee, and the health department has set a strict deadline for the removal of the home by the end of July to avoid fines. This is a critical situation that requires immediate attention.
The Veterans Council of Indian River County has been instrumental in coordinating efforts but faces a shortfall. Despite having some funds available, they are still $7,500 short of the total needed to cover all expenses. This funding gap poses a significant barrier in resolving the veteran’s current predicament.
