Pre-Memorial Day Educational Seminar: Honoring Our Heroes

Pre-Memorial Day

Pre-Memorial Day

On May 22nd, the American Legion Post 189 will host a special Pre-Memorial Day Educational Seminar from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the North Indian River County Library. This event aims to give the community a deeper understanding of Memorial Day’s significance.

At the heart of this seminar are two exceptional individuals-Ray Osborne, a revered community figure, and Lloyd Lasenby, a distinguished guest speaker from the Purple Heart Cane Project. Their presence promises to offer unique insights and compelling stories that underscore the importance of honoring our fallen heroes.

Lasenby, leading the Purple Heart Cane Project, is dedicated to recognizing and supporting Purple Heart recipients. His participation in the seminar will provide a unique perspective on the sacrifices made by service members and how we can continue to honor their legacy.

It promises to be an enlightening and moving experience for all attendees. Residents and visitors are encouraged to join this educational seminar to gain a greater appreciation for Memorial Day and to pay tribute to the brave men and women who have served our country.

You will learn the history of Memorial Day, how veteran service organizations like the American Legion Post 189 rise to the occasion to honor those who served our nation, how they continue serving our local community, and new methods of paying your respects to our fallen through virtual cemeteries.

“We do 4-5 services every Memorial Day and 80-100 services per year,” Commendar Hamerlin told Sebastian Daily.

“To me, Memorial Day is a day to honor and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. For those who gave it all so that others may live free, in the name of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness,” Hamerlin added.
